KARLA CASTAÑEDA


Stop motion animator | Mexico

She studied at ITESO, in the city of Guadalajara, México, where she discovered the stop motion technique. After graduating, she worked in animation productions for television commercials and for independent production companies.

Specialized in stop-motion, her first short film was "Jacinta" (2008), four years later she directed "La Noria". For both pieces, Karla has won the Ariel for Best Animated Short Film in 2009 and 2012, in addition to other awards at major festivals as Guadalajara International Film Festival, the International Film Festival of Morelia, the Short Shorts Film Festival Mexico, the Middle East International Film Festival of Abu Dhabi, among others.

She has also directed short films: El Altar del Perdon, La Mano, La Pistola y los Bigotes de Obregon, Se Prohibe Volar Papalotes, among others.
