We often feel that art is a luxury, it is something we do when the "real" needs of a person or society are taken care of. When times are challenging - either on a personal level, or on a national or global level - this idea can become even more firmly believed. We feel that we shouldn't be making anything as "unnecessary or self indulgent” as art.

This is not only wrong, it’s dangerous. Art is a great healer. We turn to art not only to escape the difficult times, but also to engage with them in a place that is safe.
