JORGE GUTIÉRREZ

Director and animator

Best known for being the writer and director of The Book of Life (2015), Jorge Gutiérrez has just released his short animated virtual reality film "Son of Jaguar".

He born in Mexico City and raised in Tijuana, attended CalArts, where he received his BFA & MFA. His thesis "Carmelo" won the Student Emmy Award. He has directed, written and designed characters for Warner Bros, Disney, Cartoon Network, Sony and DreamWorks. He and his wife Sandra Equihua, created the Emmy winning series “El Tigre, The Adventures of Manny Rivera” for Nickelodeon.

In 2015 he premiered his feature film “The book of life”, a CG-animated feature for Reel FX and 20th Century FOX, produced by Guillermo Del Toro and Brad Booker.

The film was been nominated for a Golden Globe, Critics’ Choice Award, Producer’s Guild Award and Annie Award for Best Animated Feature.

He is currently working on his next project: Kung-Fu Space Punch
